Blaqk Bite Street Bistro: Qolorful than Black

“If only I’ve known, I would have worn Blaqk err black… I was wearing white however and it instead “consumed the better of me”…”

The dining area and the diners… as for the “DINNING”, I guess that’s my family “persistently clamoring” that I take on the challenge

We went to Blaqk Bite Street Bistro for lunch; though still a bit full from a late breakfast. It didn’t occur to me that right there and then, I’d be coaxed to take on an eating challenge. Unprepared. Yet, in a way, confident. Challenge: Finish a 12”-tall burger in 4 minutes.

Giga Bite Burger …supposedly with black buns but they ran out of it that time

Their Giga Bite Burger comes with fries that I had to consume as well. It also comes with a Romanian lettuce, onions, tomato, cucumber, chicken fillet, ham & cheese and a special dressing. The dressing made it all the more distracting… just imagine the mess getting caught up dangling by the strands of my ‘stashe and goatee (lol)

Kinda hoping I’d be “the new kid on the Blaqk”

By the 1min-30sec or so mark (checkout the vid and Blaqk’s FB page), I was half way there yet got conscious of my white shirt getting splats of sauce (shirt turning into a dress(ing)? ah ah)… an apron would have been of practical use. I’d say I’ve lost but I actually gained ~ a few more pounds that is. At any rate, it was worth the “full (or fool)-filling” experience. And if it was any consolation, among all who took on the same challenge according to the beautiful lady timer, I’ve consumed the most under the 4-minute mark. Hmm, voracious!

The 3 who coaxed me into the challenge… “C, A and L” might as well stand for “Challenge Accepted Losers!” (lol)

That Giga Bite Burger was more than enough for a single meal. It actually had me so full to last ’til end of day. Now how’s that for an “after 6 diet”…

“C” got for herself the Barbeque Chicken Burger. She originally wanted the Matcha Burger but wasn’t available then, so Barbeque Chicken Burger it was… As per “C”, it was like having 2 things, burger and chicken, at the same time. And that “the chicken‘s big!” as she exclaimed which requires a big bite…

For the Campfire Burger that “A” had, it had her at “Hello”… I mean “Aloha” ~ “Aloha there, pineapple!” Unlike the apparent seasonal Jollibee’s “Amazing Aloha” burger though, Blaqk’s Campfire Burger is a regular treat in their menu and comes with a slice of pineapple that’s grilled instead. And with teriyaki sauce, it makes it all the more “OA” (Oriental-American) with the grilled pineapple serving as the tropical factor balancing out the western taste of the beef patty and the flavorful hint of Asian in the teriyaki sauce which suits the Pinoy palate.

Blaqk’s Chicken Mac and Cheese was more than a “snack” unlike the usual mac and cheese. Topped with that of what looked like chicken fingers, it was a crisp and tender variation for a taste and texture complementing your soft and cheesy carb intake, a satisfying treat kindred to that of rice and viand.

As for the 2 quesadilla variants (the beef and the chicken) we likewise had, it looked like there was nothing much of a difference but the fillings. I prefer the chicken, considering how the beef could be a bit overwhelming with its seemingly richer flavor. As it appears, the soft pita wasn’t grilled which could have somehow given that conforming charred texture. But then, that’s just according to my liking…

“L” just has “the eye for quesadillas”…

We downed these generous servings with these similarly flavorful thirst quenchers:

and a glass of water…

Oh and yes, a glass of water as I was taking on the challenge making me extra full… correspondingly full in the sense that it was an indulging experience indeed. First of, the staff was anything but black or block; I mean they weren’t at all “shady and curtailing” (you know, how some service crew could be outwardly disinclined)… I guess, they instead imbibe a “Blaqk thing”.

True (and ironic) enough, like Blaqk for a name and concept, it is however colorful. From their black-shirt-wearing-yet-with-bright-disposition staff as above-mentioned to the radiant and animated theme and interior, it’s Blaqk with a “Q” ~ quality and quantity.

As for the challenge, “Blaqk kong bumalik… but hungry this time… I’ll be Blaqk!”

So much challenge ahead… Blaqk is the new red (mark I’m aiming at)
