Let’s call it “vital wave” or that “practically vital” must-have in every surfing spot “food hut”. I’ve read somewhere that it’s almost necessary for any surfer eatery to have a burrito. If that’s similarly the case in San Juan’s Surf Town, then Olas Banditos is right up the alley.
And rightfully spot on, from the shore between Kahuna and San Juan Surf Resort, there’s an alley and on the right side by the corner along the main highway is this Mexican food joint.
Being in this “north shore”, “A” ordered the Ilocos Norte Burrito. It was one huge burrito that can actually satisfy two unless you’re really hungry… “It’s way gnarly dude”, they might as well call it a “surfer in a pipeline”.
Taco’bout taqueria, “C” had a chicken taco as the beef taco wasn’t available then. Stuffed with a generous serving of fillings, your appetite will be “totally stoked dude!”
Whereas for “L”, it was cheese quesadilla as usual. You know he likes it when he makes his sound of affirmation, “Mmmm” which he did.
And as for me, I had their beef flauta. A rolled-up tortilla topped with salsa and strewn with what seems to be their signature relish as it was similar to that of the taco.
Adding up to the Surf Town “air” and tropical feel is their open space. Thus for lunch time, it was a bit hot so these refreshments served to cool our body temps down:
If my translation serves me right, ‘Olas Banditos’ means “waves bandits” which could as well be that of what ebbs your wave of cravings just like that “burrito to a surfer” overtone.
“Seguro to deberías intentar cuando en San Juan amigo!”
