Red Rustikz easily became one of our favorite restaurants, and if you read on, you’ll find out why and hopefully, entice you to pay them a visit soon. Or you’ll be missing out on great eats!
One sunny Sunday afternoon, “O” and I, with the kids in tow, went on our weekly foodventure, this time we went to a newly opened restaurant on a new constructed building along General Luna road.
The restaurant’s name is Red Rustikz. If you think the name is cool, wait till you see the inside.
Looking at the place from the outside I was able to get a fancy but cozy kind of vibe.
I spotted this record player and was so amazed I had to post it on IG right away, because I thought it was awesome that this new place had an ‘old school’ music player.
I was seriously like a kid in a theme park inside Red Rustikz, thinking about it now is kind of embarrassing! Hahaha But what can I do? I love what they’ve done to the place, and I haven’t even gotten to the food yet, will get to that in a bit, first check out their absolutely amazing kitchen!
Yes indeed, they have an open kitchen, like it’s so open, you know they’re not hiding anything, which is awesome because you can actually see them prepare everything for you as you order it, so you know you’re getting newly cooked food and not a 3 week old reheated-frozen-something, it has happened before but I’m too nice to write about it. Also, they have a bar where they make drinks, separate from the kitchen, how cool is that? Very!
Okay okay, I know you get it, I love the ambiance and the whole vibe of Red Rustikz, but now you’re wondering how the food is. Well, let me tell you…
For starters, we were given complimentary Pumpkin Soup.
It looks like any other pumpkin soup, good presentation, but let me tell you about this soup. It’s the most delicious soup I have ever had in my life. Like seriously, I have had other pumpkin soups before, I’ve never had it like this. It was creamy, seasoned just right, you can taste the pumpkin puree and the cream perfectly blended together and not one taste was out of place, I literally went, “mmm mmm, mmm mmm”, this has a tune it’s just hard to express in words. Haha!
I was so happy with the soup, I went Oliver Twist on “O”, and asked, “Please sir, can I have some more?” (Read that with a British accent, just like how Oliver Twist said it, Lol.), unfortunately he finished his soup already, but Lucas wasn’t and he gave me some of his but it was so good that I also wanted Lucas to enjoy it, so I did my best not to be greedy. Hahaha! If this was on the menu, I’d gladly pay for it!
Silly me, I almost forgot the Baked Mussels in Garlic Butter Chili Paste, but believe me when I say that this one was very good. I’m not fond of spicy food, but this one wasn’t too spicy, it had just the right amount of kick at the end, and the garlic butter, so yuuuummm. I’ll definitely have this again, with or without rice, for only 225Php, you get perfectly baked mussels with the most delicious garlic butter sauce and a delicious kick at the end. Yuuuuummmmm…
The kids and I ordered pasta, but “O”, being the rice person that he is, ordered the Baby Back Ribs Provencale.
It was good, but it could have been better. If it was more fall-off-the-bone soft, it would have been perfect, it was a bit charred in some parts, so it had a bit of a bitter after taste, but some people like it that way, I would have wanted it to be a bit more saucy and a lot softer… But that’s just me. For 225Php, it’s not bad, but it can be better.
I ordered the Creamy Ravioli.
It was made with feta and mozzarella cheese with a bit of ground beef, I think. It isn’t called creamy for nothing, because it was creamy but it wasn’t overwhelming. The sauce was perfectly seasoned, the ravioli cooked to perfection and the crushed nuts added texture to the pasta dish that definitely livened it up. For 225Php, it made me love ravioli again, I had a bad experience with ravioli, where it was steaming hot on the outside but then it was frozen on the inside, so gross, this one was nothing like that. This one was perfect, the pasta was al dente and the filling was cooked all the way through with the feta and mozzarella complimenting each other and making beautiful music in the party in my mouth.
Lucas loves seafood, so he had the Seafood Cannelloni.
It was stuffed with shrimp, squid and cream dory. I think it had the same sauce as the creamy ravioli, but it tasted a little bit different because of the seafood. The squid was cooked perfectly, it wasn’t rubbery at all, as well ad the shrimp, and the sauce definitely made the cream dory taste awesome. I am allergic to shrimp but I had to try this out and I’m glad I did. For 195Php, I’d order this again for sure, I’d just have to have anti-histamine with me, it’s worth the discomfort of itching from my allergies.
Chakai loves Carbonara, but because they didn’t have that on the menu, she had the Chicken Alfredo instead.
It was made with fettuccini pasta and was accompanied by grilled chicken. It was definitely good. It was creamy but not overwhelmingly so, the chicken was grilled to perfection, which can be tricky because chicken tends to dry out when grilled, this one was still a bit juicy but cooked thoroughly, awesome. You definitely get your money’s worth at 195Php.
Oh, did I mention that Red Rustikz makes it’s pasta fresh? Well they do, and it’s awesome. You can actually see the chef make the pasta in front of you, that’s so very cool!
We washed everything down with glasses of infused apple water (their service water was infused with apples, so awesome! I’m loving them more by the minute!) and these very refreshing milk teas, in Caramel, Hazelnut, Butterscotch and Vanilla. I had the butterscotch of course. It’s very refreshing and I love that they have a lot of other flavors to choose from. I love that they have all flavors available too!
Then we decided to have dessert, we ordered a huge ass Chocolate Chip Cookie ala Mode.
When I said it was a huge ass cookie, I meant it, like seriously, it was like maybe 10″. We had to wait for the cookie to bake because they bake it only after you order it and is served after your meal, normally it takes around 8-10 minutes for the cookie to bake, but since they were just 3 days old when we paid them a visit, they haven’t gotten the hang of their oven yet and they had to make it twice because the first one we were told was crumbly and the second one was burnt and they didn’t want to serve that, but since we had no plans that day, we decided to wait for it, and it was worth it. It was crunchy on the outside but still a bit chewy on the inside, it was awesome with the vanilla ice cream too! It’s quite expensive at 200Php for a cookie, but if you have a sweet tooth and you like chocolate chip cookies, this one is worth every cent. I can totally picture myself pigging out on this in front of my TV while binge watching my favorite shows on iFlix.
Service was also very excellent. Not only was the food great, one of the owners attended to us, he was very warm, welcoming and very attentive, he made sure we had everything we needed and that we were updated about how long our orders were going to be and asked about how we found everything after we have actually had a chance to enjoy it, he had no idea who we were so I know it’s not because we’re OA, he just was truly trained well I think. I also think that the reason he was waiting on us that time was because they just opened and they have yet to hire enough wait staff. I wish I asked for his name but I was too shy, he definitely contributed to making our experience at Red Rustikz an amazing one.
Don’t take my word for it though, check them out yourselves, you won’t be sorry!
We can’t wait to go back and have a sample of their other dishes, hopefully they have pumpkin soup again when we visit! 😛
